Pluto and Persephone

You can’t not love Bernini.  The marble is real.  And neither of these pictures are even CLOSE to them in person… They’re kind of orgasmically beautiful in person O.O”

(Also, to keep the language constant, it’s Hades and Persephone (Greek), or Pluto and Proserpina (Latin, what I think was used on the work).)

I swear I walked around this piece like a goldfish in a bowl when I was in the Borghese. Every angle is perfect.

OMG the detail.

Studying these in art history. It is absolutely amazing to imagine that this was sculpted out of marble. This was sculpted. Out of stone. Just think about that when you notice how his fingers press into her skin and how billowy the fabric seems to be. It’s just enchanting.

This is my favourite type of art in the entire world.
